This was my first stay here with friends who are regulars. Unfortunately the room we had was not great, we were tucked away on the top floor and all we had by way of heating was a small electric heater bolted to the wall which you were requested to turn off at night. There was also very little room to move around. The heater had been switched off all day so the room was freezing and took ages to warm up. Soundproofing was also poor as we could hear everything from next door. Our friends, a little way along the corridor on the same floor, had a proper radiator on the central heating circuit and a much larger room with better soundproofing.
Nice local ales on tap in the bar, and the location is superb with the gardens running down to the Severn and the riverside walk, and the local tiles in the corridors and staircase is a lovely feature- walk down to the Jackfield Tile Museum to see more of these. There was a wedding taking place at the hotel while we were there but there were no problems with noise from this.
It was a lovely weekend away and I would love to score the Valley hotel higher, but the room was a bit of a let-down especially as it was so cold. However it seems the quality of rooms here is a bit luck of the draw going by other reviews and our friends’ experiences. I have just booked to go back to Ironbridge but elected to stay elsewhere; for the prices charged I didn’t fancy taking the chance next time. less
