We attended a wedding held at the hotel staying a couple of nights and spending most of our time in the hotel. Although not busy on the Friday, the hotel was full on the Saturday although isn’t seem over busy or under pressure like some places can get.
I have to say I found the place to be a little quirky in layout reflecting it’s old life as a farmhouse and farm buildings as shown by some of the old plans on the wall. It does have a really nice lounge area just to the right of reception.
In brief, the food was good. We ate on Friday night, a “snack” at lunchtime on the Saturday together with the breakfasts of course. We stuck to more simple fare so I can’t advise on some of the dishes. What we had was good quality and service was quick and efficient.
Talking about service, the chap who was doing the breakfasts on both days was a credit to the place. Helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. I like the interaction, bringing a personal touch.
Our room was comfortable and not overheated like some can get especially at this time of the year. One point, if you’re staying and there’s a party on, check where your room is. We retired at midnight and a party was still going (not the wedding we attended) and was pretty loud straight underneath us. It did stop not long after but could be an issue.
Overall, I will be looking to stay again if in the area. Service is often the key in the hotel game. The sense we got was that everyone working there could not do enough for you. That goes a long way. less
