My husband and I stayed at the BW Premier Herald Square for 10 nights in April. We were in a studio room on the top floor (17th).
Right from arrival this hotel is amazing for the price.
Location is fantastic - 2 mins walk to the subway, 5th Avenue, and the giant Macy’s Department Store in Herald Square. 5 mins to the Empire State Building. 5 mins to Broadway and Times Square. We walked everywhere, but there are boundless options for public transport, taxis, Uber, and hop-on-hop-off buses within a very short walking distance.
The hotel itself is very tidy, with new fittings, comfy beds and linen, TV with an excellent range of channels (we like to catch up on HBO when in the US). Our room was small, but very comfortable and lots of dresser drawers and a wardrobe to put things out of the way. The bathroom was proportionately very spacious however! Our room looked out at offices across the road. Blackout curtains and ear plugs supplied by the hotel made for a great night’s sleep.
Breakfast is free daily - a reasonable selection of cereals, hot dishes that change daily, yoghurts, bread and filter coffees. If this doesn’t appeal, there are delis galore in the neighbourhood to fill up before heading out for the day or get supplies. A 24 hr deli is 2 mins walk. (Wholefoods is also nearby at Bryant Park - 10 mins walk max).
Free copies of the NY Times and USA today are also available.
There is a small bar onsite, with a happy hour that seems to last from opening to 9pm. Free coffee, water, and tea is also available in the lobby.
The only negatives I could point to (and they are pretty small really) are that the water pressure in the shower was virtually non existent, and air in the pipes meant the flow of hot water could be inconsistent in both shower and bathroom sink. The air conditioning unit was similarly a little quirky - it works well generally but can sometimes blow cool air for no apparent reason, so if you get cold at night like me, ask for extra duvets - the hotel is very happy to supply these. To make it absolutely perfect, a small fridge would have been great so we could keep things like yoghurt and drinks in our room, but with so many things available nearby it was only ever a matter of minutes to pick up supplies.
All in all, this hotel is perfect for couples looking to stay in the heart of NYC. I can’t recommend Premier Herald Square enough. less
