I stayed at the Orton Hall last night and can only describe it as distinctly average. I have to whole-heartedly agree with the previous reviewer - the girl on reception did not make me feel like she was pleased to see me! She made a real fuss of the guy in front of me who was a regular - but she said the bare minimum to me. I had booked room only - she did not offer me dinner, or breakfast. She didn't tell me where anything was - the restaurant, the bar, the Leisure centre. My room was dated - very 1980's - old fashioned decor - in need of modernisation - especially the bathroom.
On a positive note it is a nice building in lovely surroundings. I had a walk round the grounds/churchyard which was pleasant. I met 2 amazing staff members - Kay in the restaurant was really lovely, and Jade in the Spa also. The pool looks great, a really good size, and I wished I had had time to use the leisure facilities. The bed was clean and very comfortable - I had a really good night's sleep. Also the food in the restaurant was very nice (Sea Bass with Crab Risotto).
Out of courtesy I called the duty manager to advise him of my experience - whilst he was apologetic he did not make any effort to reimburse me or offer me a reduced rate return stay). I also received a call from the hotel manager, who again was apologetic but that was all.
Overall I think it's just horses for courses. Some people would love this old fashioned, traditional hotel. Personally, I prefer a warm welcome & more modern facilities. less
