We spent four nights at the Mayfield House Hotel as it is quiet close to the venue for the WOMAD music festival.
Arrival - warm welcome at reception by Frank who also kindly helped us with our luggage to the top floor. Our thanks.
Parking - free, secure, private parking available.
Room - our standard room was fairly small but good use has been made of the space. Room 12 overlooks the small car park and during our stay the hotel was full but it did not interfere with good sleep quality. A propos there is easy access to the car park from room 12. Ample storage space for clothes. The bathroom is equally small with a walk in shower and dispensers for handwash and shower gel ( welcomed as it cuts down on waste). Ample hot water but weak shower pressure. Room facilities include a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer. Robes and soap are available on request. Good quality towels and bed linen.
Room directory is comprehensive.
Meals - are served in a pleasant area overlooking a small garden. At breakfast the 'cold items' are self service and the tea and cooked dishes are served at the table. Sufficient time is allowed before the cooked dishes are served and the table staff are very helpful, friendly but professional. We paricularly enjoyed the scramble on salmon.
Dining experience is memorable (see separate review).
Afternoon tea is served and snacks are available at the bar.
Free wifi available and we had no connection problems.
Two experiences stopped me from rating the establishment as excellent - one was the strange odour, particularly in the corridors (the whole place is very clean) and the other was my experience at reception on checking out. The lady was surly and I was prepared to put it down to one of her off days....alas no...I was waiting at reception for the luggage to come down and observed her checking out other guests, enquiring if they had had a pleasant stay, bidding them farewell and showing very good interpersonal skills!
Apart from these experiences, we had a restful stay in a quiet environment, within easy access of the South Cotswolds.
The hotel has an interesting history, too....... less
