I booked this hotel, because I had a good experience during my last trip to Liberia at their restaurant. The hotel web site advertises high speed internet access, internet access points in the room and hot water. I received none of these during my stay. The wifi in my first room did not exist. The front desk clerk informed me that they had been having issues with the wifi for over a month. He told me they were booked up and had no other rooms, until retracting and offering me a handicap room that had wifi. I moved to the new room and was able to connect for 10 to 30 seconds at a time, before needing to go through the whole access of the hotspot again. There was no data-port in the room to connect with, despite the reference to them in the room highlights. I went the night without internet access in my room. I called Best Western customer service, who informed me there was nothing they could do that night, but assured me the manager of the hotel would reach out to me in the morning. In the morning, I bathed in cold water, as there was not hot water. About check out time, I approached the front desk to check out. They processed my request and did not offer the manager, so I asked. 15 minute later, the manger emerges from the office directly next to the front desk and asks what I want. I explained my situation. The manager responds that he is sorry, but that the hotel had a lightning strike the week before. He went on to explain all that he had been dealing with since the strike... costs.... insurance claims and then looked at me with dead eyes. He offered nothing more than an apology. His story and the clerks were quite different. I am not sure who was lying, but one of them had to be.
Probably one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I have complained twice, ever, in my various travels. This time, and the time the front desk clerk threw a early AM kegger outside my room. I was appalled at the lack of accountability, insight or intervention. I cannot recommend this hotel in Costa Rice. I have stayed in hotels in Liberia, Punta Arenas, Jaco, Tamarindo, La Fortuna and San Jose and could recommend all but this one.
I notice that other reviews mention the night club across the street being loud. It is. Until 5am. less
