Nice Hotel - Patchy Guest Attention.
La Poste is ideally located for central Troyes, the hotel is nicely appointed and decor is fresh and classic 'modern hotel'.
We booked a Junior Suite at La Poste for a last night of Luxury on our trip back to Calais and arrived about 16:00 to be greeted by the most unhelpful male Receptionist and (we assume) Manager. Both seemed more interested in answering phones and discussing something other than the Guest standing in front of them. I had to go and park the car as we hadn't booked their car park (although one of the men thought there was space, whilst the other glared him down), my Wife checked us in and got the key etc. No offer of help with the bags was forthcoming so she struggled into the lift, in front of the receptionist, to get to our room.
Our room (105) was really well appointed, of good size and condition, but the eye to detail just wasn't there. 1 Bottle of complimentary water for 2 people, a safe that wouldn't retain its code, cup stains on the bedside cabinets, no vanity kit, pen etc.. Sure, we could have called Reception, but the last thing I want to do after a long drive is start moaning, even at these prices.
Morning came, we received a 'Bonjour' from the female day Receptionist, went for Breakfast in the restaurant, where the team were very friendly, helpful and efficient and, by the way, the buffet breakfast was excellent! Checkout was equally as pleasant and helpful.
Thus, our view of this hotel is marred by poor guest management on arrival and lack of attention to room presentation. Would we stay again or recommend? If it was downgraded to a 3* and priced accordingly, yes. If not........We'd have to weigh up it's convenience and decor vs patchy Guest attention. less
