My wife and I stayed here last week for 3 nights. Our room was a classic room but was modern, bright and airey. There was a spa bath which was fantastic after a hard days walking, a fridge with bottled water, biscuits, large TV in a spotlessly clean room.
The hotel is in a great location right in the middle of Ambleside, and as you enter the hotel you get a feeling of warmth in a lovely environment. The reception staff are so friendly and welcoming and quickly multi task between receiving guests and serving me a local pint in the bar. The seating area is a relaxing area consisting of many different sofas where you can always find a place to relax. There are no hard backed chairs just sofas to chill on in a well designed, bright and breazy lounge. A lovely place for an afternoon cuppa or a glass of wine in the evening.
We had two evening meals during our stay. Both meals were excellent and good value where we had the roast beef one evening and chicken and chilli con carne on the other. Once again the restaurant area is a spacious relaxing area behind the bar where you feel you have plenty of room and not sat on top of each other. All three breakfasts we had were excellent. There is the traditional full English which was very tasty but there was also a lovely selection of fruits, breads, cheeses, salmon, drinks etc. Definitely one of the best selections I have seen.
In the basement of the hotel, there is a well maintained gym, swimming pool, sauna, outdoor jacuzzi which we used several times. In keeping with the rest of the hotel it was spotless and a great addition. In summary this is a fantastic hotel with great facilities, great food, great staff in a warm and friendly environment. I hope it isn't too long before we have the opportunity to return. less
