Isle of Man – Motorbike racing

Two weeks of road closures, motorbikes whizzing around at over 100mph, in most parts of the world this would be more than a nuisance but on the Isle of Man, it’s all part of a major sporting event. The Isle of Man TT (the TT stands for Tourist Trophy) pits powerful superbikes in a race around a 37-mile-long course. For your chance to catch a glimpse (seriously, they ride at up to 136mph) of the action head to the island between May and June and book yourself into the Best Western Palace Hotel & Casino a short 24-minute walk or five-minute drive away from the main grandstand.

London – Darts and more

When it comes to sport, ‘Ally Pally’ is probably best known for hosting the World Darts Championship. The pub game has grabbed the attention of new audiences in recent years and Alexandra Palace welcomes a rowdy crowd of fans that create a unique atmosphere you’d have to look long and hard to find in any other sport. Darts isn’t the only sport on offer at the Victorian venue, tickets for Masters Snooker, The London Squash Classic and regular ice hockey from the Haringey Huskies are also available in this corner of the capital. Best Western London Highbury is 17 minutes away by car.

Nottingham – Ice skating and more

Nottingham’s National Ice Centre is a hub for all things winter sports. Whether you’re looking to watch competitive action or get your skates on yourself, there’s plenty to see and do. Book your seat for figure skating competitions, synchronized ice skating tournaments and more. The centre puts on family fun days, disco skating sessions, even ice hockey and speed skating sessions for a more daring day out. When you’re done having fun on the ice, the Best Western Plus Nottingham City Centre is just an eight-minute drive or 16-minute walk away.

Manchester – Basketball

Manchester’s hub for all things basketball, opens its doors for guests to watch competitive games or to take part in lessons. Plan your visit around the Manchester Giants’ schedule and you can catch the game played at its highest level in the UK, in the British Basketball League. If you need somewhere to stay, make sure you check Best Western Plus Pinewood Manchester Airport-Wilmslow Hotel, a 27-minute-drive away.

Sheffield – Snooker

Visit the spiritual home of snooker at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Sporting venues might come bigger, louder and brighter but this arena has a special relationship with the sport and has hosted the World Snooker Championship since 1977. Connoisseurs of the game believe there’s no better place to watch the big names put their cue control to the test.  The Best Western Plus The Quays Hotel Sheffield is a four-minute drive or 12-minute walk away.
