Every August, Weymouth goes mad for Carnival Wednesday. The crowning of the carnival queen, limbo dancing, displays by the Red Arrows and numerous competitions for kids and adults are followed by the carnival procession and a spectacular fireworks display.
Another highlight is the annual parade, reinstated in 2010 following an absence of two years, while the spread of supplementary events that run from morning to nightfall mean you should be able to catch some of the celebrations even if Wednesday is a working day for you.
For committed carnival fans, it's worth arriving early so you can cast a discerning eye over proceedings - up to 100,000 people regularly attend the carnival, one of the most vibrant cultural events to happen in Weymouth all year.
