But how do you keep everyone happy on a group trip that can include everyone from grandparents to teenagers and toddlers?

From escape room challenges to rock-pooling along the British coast, these holiday activities are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s faces…

Get competitive at mini golf

Drum up a bit of friendly competition with a game of mini-golf. Easy exercise for all the family, you’ll find both indoor and outdoor mini golf courses all over the country – some even have fun themes like Jurassic Parr in Glasgow, or Pirate’s Bay Golf in Devon, adding an extra element of fun to your game.

With colourful courses full of laughs and surprises, you can enjoy some quality time together and create lasting memories.

Challenge your teamwork in an escape room

The perfect interactive activity, escape rooms are a great way for families to bond as you work together to find clues, solve puzzles and escape the room. Most escape rooms come with a choice of themes, such as an abandoned laboratory, a haunted castle, or an ancient temple, giving your family the chance to solve a unique mystery and learn about each other’s hidden skills.

Challenging minds old and young, escape rooms offer an immersive family day out you’ll remember for years to come.

Explore the British countryside

Family walks in the UK are a great way to get out in nature and spend quality time together. With so many beautiful and diverse landscapes, from the rugged highlands of Scotland and the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, to the vibrant cities of London and Manchester, you’re never far from a scenic route.

Great Britain offers plenty of walks suitable for families, from easy strolls in local parks and woodland trails, to challenging hikes in the mountains. So whatever your age-range or fitness abilities, you’ll always be able to find an adventure to suit the whole family.

Get close to wildlife

These educational attractions offer a unique and interactive experience, providing the perfect opportunity to learn about the natural world. Whether it's getting up close and personal with a variety of wildlife or learning about the importance of conservation, there's something for everyone in the family. Plus, many zoos and safari parks offer extra activities such as animal handling, meet and greets with keepers and even the chance to feed the animals – so the kids are sure to have a day to remember.

Step back in time

Take a step into the past by visiting one the England’s hundreds of protected historical sites.

English Heritage sites offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the country's fascinating past as a family. From castles, abbeys and ruins to country houses, gardens and industrial sites, there’s something for all ages and interests.

Each site comes with its own rich story to tell, while many offer interactive activities, displays and workshops to help the children (and the young at heart!) learn in a fun and immersive way. Explore English Heritage sites near your hotel to find the perfect family day out.

Visit an outdoor cinema

If you’re look for a fun alterative activity this summer, the UK’s outdoor cinemas offer the perfect afternoon for all the family. Pack a picnic and settle down in front of the big screen – don’t forget the popcorn!

Ride the railway

Whether you’re a steam train enthusiast, or just looking for a fun and different day out, the UK’s vintage steam trains make for a fun-filled few hours whatever the weather.

Climb aboard for a leisurely ride through some breath-taking countryside. Plus, many steam train routes offer the chance to explore museums and heritage sites, or visit nearby attractions such as castles, stately homes, or quaint English villages, before climbing back aboard for the return journey.
