Wimbledon International Music Festival
Masterminded by Anthony Wilkinson, Wimbledon Music Festival brings top international artists to south-west London around St Cecilia's Day (22nd). First held in 2009, it fills St John the Baptist Church, Wimbledon Synagogue and other venues and churches with great music.
Haydn's oratorio The Creation opens 2010, which also features British countertenor Michael Chance (15th November) and tenor Mark Padmore (17th); French pianists Pascal Rogé (20th) and, with violinist Alina Ibragimova, Cédric Tiberghien (23rd); and cellist Raphael Wallfisch (25th).
Pianist-turned-poet Alfred Brendel is accompanied by cellist son Adrian (Southside House, 21st) while the Wihan Quartet plays twice (19th and 26th). Richard Rodney Bennett accompanies Claire Martin in cabaret (16th), while John Sessions portrays Gustav Mahler (28th). On St Cecilia Day itself, over 3000 children across local 50 schools sing music's praises.
