Tring Natural History Museum
The fantastic range of animals collected by keen zoologist Lionel Walter Rothschild is on show at the Tring Natural History Museum. Intriguing exhibits include the petrifying black angler fish and the fleas dressed as Mexican dancers.
Six galleries are filled to the brim with Lord Rothschild's carefully selected collection of animals, some now sadly extinct.
Exhibits include a gorilla from Cameroon, rhinos, birds of paradise, an endangered pygmy hog and one of the first emperor penguins ever to be seen in the UK. Rothschild had a particular love for zebras and all known species are housed in the museum. Temporary exhibits change three times a year.
Rothschild not only kept his exotic finds in the museum, but famously let kangaroos, giant tortoises and other creatures freely roam the surrounding grounds and Tring Park.
