York Early Music Festival

First held in 1977, York Early Music Festival can claim to be Britain's foremost festival of early music. It commandeers a variety of medieval churches, historic houses and Guildhalls in and around this Roman city for its huge range of performances.

The York Early Music Festival adopts a different theme each year and this year it's 'Musical Marriages'. Using this as the inspiration for a host of concerts, lectures and workshops designed to celebrate marriage in all senses of the word, the programme sweeps from grand ceremonial occasions to intimate pieces written for composers' spouses.
