Aberdeen International Youth Festival
Aberdeen's International Youth Festival brings young people from all over the world for a fortnight's explosion of creative activity. Incorporating two summer schools for musicians and dancers, it remains one of the Granite City's most important annual cultural events.
First held in Switzerland in 1969, founded by Blyth Major and Lionel Bryer, before moving to Britain in 1972, the International Youth Festival settled for good in Aberdeen in 1982. With recent international visitors from Belgium, Canada, China and Hong Kong, Czech Republic, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago and Ukraine, as well as groups from across Britain, each year there's a packed programme of 70 events or so.
