Abbotsford
Abbotsford was once the home of 19th-century novelist Sir Walter Scott. Today, visitors can explore the house and grounds and view Scott's extensive collections of historic relics, weapons & armour, and rare books.
Abbotsford, was not developed at the behest of the aristocracy, but by one of the new breed of self-made men that changed the world in the 19th century: Sir Walter Scott. He took nearly 15 years to build his own stately home and he named it in honour of the monks of Melrose Abbey.
Visitors can not only enjoy the wonderful grounds and gardens and see the rooms where Scott created such characters as Rob Roy, Ivanhoe and Marmion, but can also now tour his private apartments.
