If there’s one thing lockdown has given us it’s plenty of time to plan for and dream about our upcoming getaways. And now we can start making those holiday-filled dreams a reality!

But the past year has also seen many people’s priorities shifting and made us rethink what we actually want from our breaks (apart from getting away from the same four walls!).

We take a closer look at how what we’ve learned during lockdown is inspiring our future getaways…

We LOVE local

People’s passion for all things local and supporting small businesses has thrived over the past year and now’s the time to explore the quirky shops and eateries-locals-love in other areas of Great Britain.

There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of nipping down a hidden street and emerging with most delicious pastry you’ve ever tasted, probably for half the price! Just ask the staff at our hotels for their local recommendations to take your trip to the next level.

If you’re heading to the north-east, one local must-visit is the Poetic License Bar along the Roker coast in Sunderland. This quirky watering hole serves up its very own small batch gin and other home-distilled spirits, plus some of the tastiest cocktails you’ll ever try. And it happens to be attached to our very own Roker Hotel BW Premier Collection by Best Western if you fancy making it an overnighter.

Taking things slooooow

If during lockdown you enjoyed a break from rushing between social engagements and planning your weekends down to the last minute, a relaxing getaway is the perfect way to ensure you get some time away from the hustle and bustle to reconnect with your family, or yourself. Switch off your phone, pack a good book and hibernate until Monday!

For maximum ‘getting away from it all’ vibes, take a look at Best Western Plus Buxton Lee Wood Hotel. Tucked away in the heart of the Peak District and with all the home comforts you could desire, it’s the perfect base for relaxing strolls and leisurely pub lunches.

Making the most of the Great Outdoors

Our daily walks have transformed us into a nation of nature lovers and the good news is we can now explore Britain’s beautiful scenery far beyond our own local area.

Whether you prefer coast or country, breezy blue seas or lush greenery, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing destinations for an outdoorsy break. And spending time in the great outdoors doesn’t just mean hiking or biking – check out our guide to Britain’s best outdoor attractions.

Extra experiences

We’ve all missed out on so much it makes sense that we want our 2021 getaways to be extra special. When you’re planning your next break think about how you can take it to the next level. Why not book a suite instead of a standard room? Or indulge in some award-winning food? Or even tick something off your bucket list – surfing lessons anyone?

For a trip with added oomph, why not try Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel, Doncaster – a truly luxurious hotel set in a peaceful corner of rural South Yorkshire. Take a closer look here.
