I travelled from Ireland to Manchester 2 days ago to meet my daughter who is working in the UK and travel on with her to Malta. I had a fall almost 3 years ago which left me with a lot of bone bruising on my spine and pelvis, a spinal annular tear, bilateral trochanteric bursitis, bilateral gluteal tendinopathy and a chipped and displaced cuboid. I take an awful lot of pain meds and my mobility is significantly impacted and although I can walk with a crutch for very short distances I can get quite a bit further faster with my wheelie walking frame; though not too far as weight bearing causes a lot of pain. So I need special assistance and am always provided with a wheelchair and assistance at airports. It was difficult to accept that I need this assistance but the staff who provide these services are for the most part willing and kind individuals and due huge praise for what they do. Manchester was a whole other experience. When I got off the plane a gentleman (and I use this term very loosely... think Voctor Meldrew in 1 Foot in the Grave x 10) met me. He oozed sarcasm. He pushed me to a door parked me facing it withy back to everybody and disappeared complaining about having to get a phone clearance and came back quite a while later complaining inaudibley in a thick accent about what the guy at the other end of the phone had said. There was some discussion about his pittance of a wage... it felt safer to say quite little. I met my daughter and we moved towards our next flight in due course. We found the assistance lane. We explained to the chap behind the desk that I can't walk far and we would need help with my bags. He said I should be fine to go ahead. Ahead was a very narrow lane with a long queue. Nobody in the queue had either baby equipment nor wheelchairs or walking aids. It was a gridlock for quite a while and I knew at this rate I wouldn't last long. Once we got to the customs wheel. I explained to the gentleman that I needed special assistance and perhaps in the wrong area. His response was quite aggressive. He held the palms of his hands forward in a stop signal and told me that this was not his job nothing to do with him. A coworker seemed to be whispering in his ear and there was a complete change in tone as they seemed to have spotted a manager in the queue behind us helping a lady with childrenby carrying her buggy. There were no more people who didn't require assistance after the manager in the queue. He (previously aggressive staff member) asked the other guy what he could do and they seemed to decide to ask the manager. The sweetness seemed too ooze out of the previously agressive man when speaking to the manager at he told the manager that he saw this as an opportunity to learn and asked what to do in this situation. The manager told him to call the special assistance desk and get them to come to help. Once the manager left the man said to wait there and pointed at an area to the side and ignored us from then on. Seone nice from special assistance arrived we were brought to the assistance area just across the hall from the assistance lane and after a while someone came to help us with a wheelchair. It was John from earlier (aka Victor). I introduced him to my daughter (he had never introduced himself) and explained we were flying on to Malta. His response was to ask her why we didn't just meet in Malta. Another gentleman had to come with us as he apparently (according to what John told us along the way) needed supervision in the airport. When we went through customs. After I left the body screening device both my rollator and crutch were gone. John had taken them and put them on the line to be scanned. I couldn't see them. He was nowhere to be seen with the wheelchair either. My daughter came and let me lean on her arm after she got through screening and I walked slowly through. I felt quite unsafe as people were moving fast in that area. After a bit John reappeared with the wheelchair put me in and literally parked me in the corner facing the wall. I eventually got out and released the brake turned it round so that I wasn't faced the corner any more aa our bags were getting a thorough searching and it took quite a while. John eventually reappeared and we resumed our journey. After a bit I was parked in what looked like an adult play pen for disability and in front of where my daughter had to sit behind me so that we couldn't converse and without such as a word of explanation John disappeared again. After while he came back and I got up with my crutch to go to where he was talking to the lady behind the desk to ask him what was going on. He said he had to mind that chap and he had gone to get something to eat. My daughter said that we'd get something to eat so and initially he said no. My daughter said we wouldn't be long and he aggressively said we had a half hour max. I took my rollator and remembered when we got to the queue that I'd forgotten my bag so asked my daughter to stay in the queue while I hot the bag. I met John on the way and he again quite aggressively spoke while standing very close to me (he's a very tall man) "you have a quarter of an hour" he said. I took out my phone and looked at tge time and said "i don't think so ... 26 minutes would take us to quarter past, which was our agreed time wasn't it". I said it politely and moved to get my bag. We ate quickly and were back well within time. When we arrived at the pen John commented that we were back on time and continued saying. "I was watching you walking there and you were going very fast.. very very fast. You were doing speed". In the most insidious loaded voice I have ever heard. My daughter said "that is disgraceful" and I added "shocking". I said to him that he had failed to communicated throughout, parked me against walls and was now inferring that I wasn't disabled. He made some terribly sarcastic response and I said that he was being really sarcastic. To which he responded "not nearly!!" in a voice oozing with sarcasm. As I continued to explain he began laughing in my face. My daughter again reiterated that this is disgraceful and told him that he was literally laughing at me while I was trying to explain things to him. She tried to explain that there are huge variations in disability (I had previously tried to explain that I could move much faster with wheels than with a crutch). She asked him if he had disability training to which he replied "I should think so!!". My daughter who is a nurse and a qualified disability assessor went on to explain that there are huge differences in individuals and circumstances with disability. At this point he turned to me and gave me a very sarcastic "I'm sorry Darling!" I replied "I'm not your Darling". He rebutted with an equally sarcastic "I'm sorry MADAM!!" My daughter responded "Yes. Madam". She turned to me and said "Mam, I'd be so worried about you travelling on your own after this." Looked at John and said "This is disgraceful". The rest of the trip up to the plane was quite quiet. He went from moving fast with the wheelchair to slowing down to the slowest imaginable pace warning me in advance about every bump.. the flight was delayed there didn't seem to be anywhere to get water to take my meds when we asked staff at the gates. I wasn't taking a glass of water from John at this stage. John seemed to have taken it on himself to order a lift to the plane even though I had said I could manage the steps (there are 2 bars to hold on to so hankfully I can do that now) if someone took my bags. I clarified with the staff at the gate that I just needed help with my bags. When he brought me through to the plane we came out of the building to the strip ages away from the plane while the other passengers came out very close and he pointed out each bump on each tile before we went over it.... there were so many and my back really felt it. By the time we got on bord both my daughter and I were quite shaken. I still don't understand it I guess. But if this mam has had ample training one would simply have to question his will to abide by same training. I would suggest putting each of the workers in this field into a wheelchair and bringing them through the airport .... leaving them immobilised going through customs without their crutch knowing that this is a risky place for falls and they are a high falls risk.. no simulation can actually get the thing but surely it could help... But then regardless of the levels of training some people just won't get it will they. As it stands having used several airports since my fall I have never come accross the likes of it.. When I got on the plane and relaxed a bit my daughter gave me a hug and I had a good cry.. I'm not a crier but it kinda caught up on me. less

We are booked in there on the 27th sept and car parking for 11 nights. Can not get a response from them or holiday extra whom we booked it through. It looks like the hotel is closed and reading reviews sound like it is full of asilum seekers. This is not on. Absolutely very good customer service letting people know or not as the case may be. less

Stayed at the Hallmark for one night while attending a work Christmas party. Room was dated and tired, in need of full refurbishment, especially the bathroom. Room had not been vacuumed well, furniture all scuffed and tatty. I was charged twice for my room, once when booking and then again at checkout. Receptionist was rude, and adamant I had not pre paid. I paid up again as I had no proof with me. On returning home found I had paid twice. It took numerous phone calls and emails to finally get a refund. While at the party in one of the function rooms my jacket was removed from their cloak room, I still had the ticket for it. Hotel refuse to accept liability, and will not entertain discussion unless via a solicitor (I intend to take to small claims). Gym and swimming pool area, also tired and need of refurbishment. Far too much chorine in the jacuzzi, made eyes stream. If hotel is reassessed, I doubt it will retain it's four stars. I wouldn't give it one! less
