We stayed for one night in a deluxe double room as the hotel was really convenient for our goddaughter's 18th birthday party.
We had a very nice welcome from the reception staff, who carefully explained the facilities. The room was very small but beautifully decorated. Very comfy bed and pillows (we took off the covers to check what make, as they were so super).
The hotel is really centrally located - about 7 minutes' walk from the station and close to the shops.
As others have noted, the back-facing rooms have terrible views: ours was of the BT OpenReach depot. We were glad to stay at the weekend as we supposed that a weekday stay could mean lots of early morning traffic movement.
Our main concern, however, was the bathroom. There's a little heated towel rail in there, but no other heating - and last weekend when we woke up it showed -2 degrees on my phone's temperature reading. The hotel is heated throughout by an old radiator system, but to have no heating in the bathroom really wasn't great in the current weather conditions. (I know that's a first world problem, but given the standard of the decor etc, it was just out of kilter). The shower wasn't a power shower and had very little pressure, offering little more than a dribble of water. The temperature gauge on the shower said it was set at 38 degrees. Now that's the same as our shower at home - which runs a lot warmer so it wasn't lovely to get out of a fairly cold shower into a very cold room. There's also nowhere to put shampoo etc in the shower cubicle itself. The shower wasn't a great experience all in all.
We thought the last two aspects were a real shame, given the comfort levels of the bed and the standard of decoration.
Finally, breakfast is lovely - especially the sausages but we'd be very reluctant to stay in a room with a freezing bathroom over the winter months. less
