The Midland Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western

Great first stay at The Midland. I’m on the hunt to find somewhere as a regular stay for work and I think I got lucky. Other members of my team had different style rooms and had to change a couple of times… However I got room 118 - a premium room and it was really impressed. Perfect size, lovely clean bathroom and away from the Main Street. No air con and the windows are sealed shut - so during the heat wave it was quite stuffy but I was so exhausted I just slept. I have booked numerous repeat stays so I’m hoping to be as lucky as I was this time! I might even ask for the same room and see if I get it less

The Midland is a lovely hotel, great staff and lovely communal areas. The rooms however are small and quite tired although they are very clean. We had lots of issues e.g. peeling wallpaper, broken coving, (strangely) wonky sockets, poor plumbing that gurgled when you used the sink and the bath wouldn't drain, shower seal that fell off but a room so small as to be laughable and a TV so small it was redundant. less

We have stayed a few times while visiting family in Bradford. Booked an Executive King Room. Room was perfect, clean and quiet. We asked for a fan as the room was hot, it was delivered to the room and made sure I had a good sleep. less

Firstly I found the hotel difficult to find as I had no idea of the area after driving from the Midlands for a stay on Sunday 7th August due to business in the area the following day. Once I finally found it there is ample free parking for guests. Walking onto the reception from the car park is like stepping back in time and what I believe to be the entrance to an old railway station. It really was very quirky I was welcomed by such a lovely friendly receptionist and her colleague at reception which was located in a very grand foyer. I really thought I had stumbled on something special. I had booked an executive room. I was allocated room 140 on the first floor but unfortunately it looked out on a brick wall and the windows could not be opened so i asked to change rooms. I was then allocated room 133 which was a little better but even still the windows did not open! I struggled to think what was so executive about this room as far as I could see there was absolutely nothing. It was quite a let down after the beautiful downstairs area of the hotel. A very small room with no separate seating area just a desk and chair. I had rang ahead before I booked the hotel and had asked what to expect of an executive room was and was told to book one as they are much larger have separate seating areas and some do have walk in showers. Although I requested this I got neither which was disappointing and as far as I could tell the hotel was not that busy. I didn’t even have a bottle of water in the room! I was too tired to ring down to reception again after such a long journey so I settled in the room. I ordered room service of sirloin steak which was quite nice and brought up to my room by the most friendliest of staff!! I did wonder if I would sleep ok as no air con and no fan supplied and the window could not be opened. On checkout I did ask the young lady on reception if it was an exec room and she said congratulations yes it was you were upgraded! I’m thinking NO I paid for an exec room that’s what was booked and that definitely wasn’t an exec room. The staff here are so lovely and very accommodating the foyer of the hotel is beautiful a hotel steeped in some very interesting history… however, the rooms are a massive let down for me. less

We stayed one night on a Travel Zoo deal. This is an amazing building. So grand, clean, quiet with great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and do their very best. So nice to see. Our room was very comfortable with an excellent bathroom. The bar and restaurant were very well placed and the food was excellent. I had Sea Bass and the chef cooked it to perfection. We had a nice evening in the bar. Great service. So lovely to be in such nice calm surroundings. We will definitely return and I recommend this hotel as a must stay in Bradford. I feel they will do extremely well with the City of Culture award. less
