Made a reservation the morning of our arrival as a whim, not expecting there to be availability. I'm guessing a Sunday and a winter weather advisory in effect contributed to availability of rooms. This was my first stay, but had stayed at the lodge at Starved Rock previously. When we arrived we were given a room with a patio, in the new section, that looked into the pool area. This would have been great if I was traveling with kids, but it was a bit too noisy. I went back to the front desk and they graciously moved me into a room into the original building, cautioning me that we would need to climb stairs to access, which was not a problem. When we went up to the room, the door was ajar and the television was on. I contacted the front desk to make sure we were not in an occupied room, but was assured that the housekeeper was probably still finishing up the room. At this time, the extremely gracious housekeeper did come in and apologized profusely and asked us if there was anything we needed. I was very impressed.
The room itself was twice the size as the room we had at Starved Rock and had a small window that looked out at the river. It was very clean with very plush towels and well decorated in the lodge motif.
The pool area, which looked down to the river and offered a marvelous view of the evening's sunset, included a hot tub and sauna.
We had both dinner and buffet breakfast in the lodge restaurant. Both meals were quite good.
The lodge far exceeded my expectations and will certainly return when time and room availability arise. less
