Hotel Villa Real

We were in a duplex room (511) and the balcony is lovely but the room really dark, especially the downstairs sitting room - we didn’t use it once. The upstairs bedroom was actually very small and little room to move around the bed and very steep marble stairs to get up and down. The only wardrobe space long enough for trousers / dresses was downstairs and so up and down to get dressed. The bed was comfortable enough and the bedding and pillows were all good. The bathroom was dreadful, very old fashioned heavy and not enough room to get in and out of the bath/shower safely, you have to stand between the loo & bidet and the space is tight. The shower is very underpowered. Due to lack of mirrors/plugs in the right place the only place to do hair and makeup is the bathroom, not ideal with steam and electricity…. Finally, the welcome drink (described as a benefit of booking direct) is water from a jug that you help yourself to in reception! When I asked I was told this is correct and that there is also water in the room along with fizzy drinks in the minibar - not my idea of a welcome drink… The location is great, but we wouldn’t stay again. less

We had stayed at the duplex suite - amazing experience...10-20 min walks to imp spots like El Retiro Park, Plaza de Mayor as well as key avenues. Friendly staff, however not too many eateries / cafes nearby. less

I stayed for two nights in May 2022, on business, and paid about 200Eur a night, excluding breakfast. It’s an older hotel, with hardwood, marble, and a very beige/brown colour theme. Feels slightly dated, but the location is amazing. Easy access to the main galleries, Retiro, great nearby restaurants and a 15min walk to Atocha station. Gorgeous view. All the amenities you’d expect; love a thick bathrobe and chocolates on the pillow:-). Only complaint is that soundproofing isn’t fab and my upstairs neighbours sounded like a herd of elephants in high-heels when they got in after midnight…. And for that reason, may look elsewhere next time. less

We spent several nights here and were very happy with the location as well as the helpful staff! We were able to walk to many sights and restaurants, but also were close to a metro stop which was nice. The hallways were pretty noisy some nights but nothing too extreme. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a clean comfortable hotel in Madrid less

Location is amazing. Spent a week in Madrid and didnt have to take a subway once to visit the highlights of the city. Walking distance from most attractions, restaurants and bar. Its not old, its classic. Only downsize is that hallways are a little bit noisy. You can hear the cleaning cart moving, and even the TV from the other rooms. Still, would stay again. Great service and good breakfast less
