A terrible hotel and definitely not 4*, if you stay in Room 101 that is, according to the General Manager himself! Just like magic we were in room 101, with no bottle of Prosecco which had been asked for on arrival (brought up about 20 minutes later from the Receptionist).
We then noticed the wind sounded very loud coming through the window, I tried to close the window but the top hinge was actually broken, causing the window to fall from the top, it is something everyone looks for in a 4* hotel stay, having to ask their other half to help them push the window close as it drops from the top into your hands....
Having noticed this, at around 4pm I went to complain, the lady at reception really didn’t seem bothered at all in fact, she wrote it on an A4 piece of paper full of other complaints! She said the maintenance guy would come up to our room. No one came to see us, I then went to complain again and got the same response, nothing was done to resolve the situation at all during our stay.
The cleanliness of the room was below par, dusty, stained bath, stains on the carpet so tacky for a hotel I’d heard a lot about.
To top that off the TV in the room didn’t work for a length of our stay and some of the remote buttons didn’t work either.
I was refunded fro the bottle of Prosecco on check out (grateful for this!) and given the General Manger, Jon Hill's email. I sent him a pretty simple email, detailing everything that was wrong with our stay. No response, so I chased him and sent another email. He said he had been busy out in a field for Hardwick Hall Live.....
His email was pathetic. I'll give him the fact he offered a comp stay or £100 compensation, that was great, however after confirming, I've yet to hear from him!
His email didn't zone in on any of the issues I mentioned and he simply dismissed them by saying the following, which is laughable.. 'I am very sorry that you were in Room 101; not great unfortunately and not a good example of Hardwick.'
Why are you putting people in a room like this then?????? Ruined our weekend away and it is absolutely disgusting. I work in a 4* hotel and let me just say, you are 2* at a push.
New staff and GM and a complete renovation needed for a tired hotel.
Great grounds though..... less
