Step out of the hotel, cross one busy main road , navigate the cycle only lane and you are on the shopping mall where 5th Avenue meets Carnaby Street - and oh watch out for all those doggies, in this resort the Italians certainly love their dogs and their bikes, keep an eye for bikers at all times.
Behind the 2 mile stretch of designer shops you will find a very long stretch of beach each part with its own beach attendant, restaurant and other facilities.
The shops are nearly all designer fashion shops with high end and expensive goods, if you are used to shopping at Primark and H & M , then you will be in for a shock !
The Royal Hotel sits proud and majestic facing the above, its a big elegant building behind its façade is a hotel perfect in every way.
Perfect old fashion luxury, well trained staff most helpful and welcoming, with a dining area fit for Royalty with fast and efficient Silver Service.
Bedrooms are not enormous but adequate for our needs, very comfortable beds, plenty of storage space, a bathroom with a good supply of toiletries and the, as requested, balcony with west facing balcony from which you can sit and watch the beautiful sunsets.
It was the post summer holiday rush period, the hotel was clearly not full and the resort in general quietish.
The food in the evenings offered something for everyone, with two courses plus a buffet starter and a dessert. The restaurant was managed by the suave and handsome ( sorry we don't know his name ) who was always on hand but at the same time quite distant. At this point a special mention for some of his excellent staff, Daniel, Marco and Barbara who were always anxious that we enjoyed our food.
Anyone wishing to have a good old fashion British fry up breakfast will be disappointed, no Heinz baked beans or greasy sausages here, but instead a superb Italian / Mediterranean spread with once again something for everyone, gluten free available upon request, freshly squeezed orange juice not he usual concentrated stuff, there is even a toaster that actually worked.
I should imagine in the summer months this fine hotel takes on a totally different personality whereby Al Fresco dining is possible outside over looking the gardens. Although I'm not quite sure how the one drinks bar would cope with a high demand from guests, also at this point a special mention for Mario the barman who introduced us to the delicious Italian cocktail called Aperol Spritzer.
The pool area consists of a garden area with shade and a fair size pool with snack bar tables and chairs and of course sun loungers. The pool is a good size and luckily not all that suitable for children so no screaming kids to contend with.
I'm trying hard to find something negative to say but must admit I'm struggling, naturally I can only comment on our own experiences and yes we did ask for that all important room with a view.
For a change (in Italy) we actually had a TV in our room that offered a few English language channels including Sky News.
Very helpful reception staff who knew everything from the times of the buses and trains to the weather forecast.
We loved our 7 nights and can highly recommend this hotel less

Thank you very much. I could not agree with you more - it is the staff and the service they provide which I believe makes The Royal such a special place to visit. I am very grateful to you for mentioning how well you were looked after by the team here, and I will ensure that your comments are passed on to all concerned.
See you soon again
