Below average hotel. Friendly staff

Lift out of service.
Allocated a room on the second floor, not really a problem, I had called and asked for a room with access to both sides of the bed as I am only too familiar with best western selling rooms as doubles but really only fit for S/O. Great room given but a bit of a trek from reception when carrying luggage and a dog.
The building is big and old and understandably has been empty for a few months but the smell of awful air freshener was too much.
Our room was traditional but well appointed.

Heat unbearable.
We had a problem with our room, somewhere there was a continued leak and what started of as a damp patch, on the carpet on one side of the bed turned in to a full puddle that spread to the other side of the bed.
We voiced our concern but unfortunately there was no room swap to be had due to the hotel being at capacity.
Thankfully we brought slippers but they ended up sopping wet and not fit for purpose.
There is a small enclosed garden, nice enough to sit in with a drink and to walk our dog around.
Big ant nest saw us soon return indoors though.
No where for us to eat having a dog with us but that is the same at many hotels sadly.
Bar prices ok but avoid the bottled beer. totally over priced.
Sleep disturbed many times by what we could only think was clunking pipes.
on check out the receptionist offered a bottle of wine for all our problems, it was appreciated but nothing would make up for such a calamity filled night. Sadly I shall not return but again the staff were great. less
