Many good features and could have been superb but badly let down by its management.

The Queen is an intriguing sight as one leaves Chester Railway Station. It has largely retained its, seemingly original, heavy late Victorian appearance. I had booked and it was just a step. The room was not cheap by Chester standards but it had been recommended to me.
I was given a very modern and well-appointed room on the sixth floor of the converted office block that forms a large annex reached from the main hotel by a long glazed corridor round a very beautifully landscaped courtyard. (Interesting displays of ancient Roman soldiers). The room should however be re-designated as a broom cupboard not because of it size but because it the constant bumping and whirring of the noisy lift motor on the other side of a thin wall. I had not been warned, but to be fair, when I complained, I was moved without demur to another room, which was fine.
The bar food was adequate and undistinguished. The bar service was polite without being over-friendly and competent but it was very slow.
When it came to checking out, there was no-one on reception and I had to wait Eventually, I gave up waiting but, as a result, I missed my train!
This interesting property and its willing staff deserve much tighter management. I wouldn't go back unless I had definite reason to believe that a firm management grip had been introduced. less
