I have just returned from a week’s stay at the Clayton Hotel in Cardiff, for business, rather than pleasure. But it was almost a pleasure to stay there. Only a hop, skip and a jump from Cardiff Central Railway Station, which was good considering the poor weather that the city experienced this week.
My room was on the 9th floor, and overlooked the railway line and you could see the dome of the nearby rugby stadium. It was a decent sized room, with the usual tea/coffee making facilities, but no Corby trouser press. Not that this mattered, as an iron was available.
There were a couple of downsides to the room. One was the bed, which I though rather hard to what I am used to. I mentioned this to a staff member and she arranged for someone to pop a mattress topper on my bed, which helped a little bit. The other was the sound of the trains going by. Even though the window seemed to be double glazed, the noise from the tracks still permeated the room.
One thing that I do need to congratulate the hotel on is the food. There is a good selection for breakfast, and what is great is their ‘healthy corner’ where you can find soya milk, lemon water and a fruit juice made entirely of fruit. I just think that mushrooms should be on offer, as I like to have some of these with my scrambled egg.
I had dinner in the hotel three nights running, and the small menu didn’t really change except for the soup. The food was well cooked and presented, and quite delicious. The fish and chips were fun, as the chips came in their own metal basket, just like in a chippie.
All in all I had an enjoyable stay there, and would probably use the hotel again, should I find myself in Cardiff anytime in the near future. less

Thank you for taking the time to put your kind comments on trip adviser.
We appreciate your feedback on our breakfast . We try to cater for all our guests needs & dietary requirements on the buffet for breakfast. We do have mushrooms & other items available for breakfast on request. If you had asked myself or one of our breakfast team we would have been delighted to get them for you.
Hopefully you will come back to stay with us in the near future.
