My husband and I spent a couple of days in the Yarra Valley recharging our batteries recently, and decided to stay at this hotel due to the very reasonable offer for Bed and Breakfast, plus its proximity to the California Redwood Forest I had been keen to visit.
I had read a number of reviews before booking and agree with most of them - the staff were indeed very friendly and accommodating; the meals were terrific and well presented; the grounds were extensive and our room overlooked the Yarra River.
I have to agree with previous reviewers - the room we stayed in (16) was small - but perfectly adequate. The bed was comfortable, and the french door at the end of the bed opened onto a practically private balcony with a staircase, so we could wander the 50 metres or so to the banks of the river. A lovely way to spend the evening after dinner, with a glass of wine in hand, listening to the bird call and the rippling water of the river.
The main omission in the room was a small refrigerator - but luckily, as we had travelled some distance, we had packed a portable esky with a bottle of champagne and cheese board.
There was also no comfortable seating - however the hotel has a number of communal lounges with beautiful decor, open fires for use in the winter and a small pool table.
I will happily recommend this hotel to family and friends as a relaxing and charming place to reconnect with your partner and with the glorious surrounding countryside. less
