My heart sank when I got dropped off at the hotel - it's pretty ugly from the outside, and the entrance is next door to Farmfoods. However, the hotel is really, really nice inside - pristine clean, and well kept. The bed was great too, I slept like a log, and as the other reviewers have noted, there were more snacks etc in the room than I would usually expect. The shower was fab too, one of those rainfall ones with the big head. All in, the rooms were great, and I would come here again for a great night's sleep.
The restaurant, on the other hand, was a bit of a let down. I ordered rare steak for dinner, and despite there only being three other diners, it took 45minutes. When it arrived, everything was a bit cold, and there was a skin on the sauce, so it had plainly been sitting about for a while. But I was starving, and the food was only a little cold, so I let it slide. However, breakfast was freezing - everything apart from the sausages was stone cold - freezing eggs, haggis, black pudding, icy mushrooms - not good. Breakfast is served til 9am, I came at 8am, so it's not as if it was just before end of service. I suspect the hotplate was not turned on. I also suspect if health and safety came in with their thermometers, it would not end well.
A real pity because that was my last memory of what would have been a great stay otherwise. less
