We were originally meant to stay at Seraphine Kensington Gardens down the road from this (closer to the Royal Albert Hall where the event we were attending was being hosted). However, on arrival there we were told we'd need to move to the sister hotel (this Olympia one) because our room wasn't available. We were told a person had been hospitalised during their stay and their belongings were still in the room we were supposed to be having, which staff couldn't legally touch.
After an awful journey down to London, this wasn't the best news - especially as it was pouring with rain and the sister hotel was a fair way down the road. However, it couldn't have been predicted. I asked for an upgrade for the inconvenience and was told we could either have that or a taxi down to the next hotel - I chose the upgrade and they said we'd be given a junior suite.
On arrival at the Olympia hotel, we were soaking wet and a bit miserable. The man on reception (could've been the manager I think) was very friendly and helpful, offering us a complimentary wine/beer for our troubles. I really appreciated that. He was kind.
Check in was quick and smooth and we got to our room quickly. I expected the junior suite to be quite spacious, but it was tiny. The bed wasn't a full sized double and the only addition to the room was a small arm chair in the corner. I was a tad disappointed.
However, it was spotlessly clean, decorated to a very high standard and had a nice atmosphere. The bathroom was very narrow, but had a lovely big shower with a rainfall head. I love those!!
I quickly realised that I was perhaps being a bit unfair by stropping about the tiny double bed. It's just that my husband it 6"4 and twice the size of me, so it was a bit of a squeeze. Nonetheless, it was comfy and we both slept really well.
Breakfast is served in the small reception area, where they have about 10 or so tables. Luckily we got the last free one, but it was crowded/intimate. The continental breakfast was great; toast, cereals, yummy yoghurts, croissants, muffins, fruit, juices and hot drinks.
When we checked out, staff let us leave our bags in a secure room near reception whilst we explored London for the day.
I would definitely stay here again. One thing that could improve slightly is the cleanliness of the hallways and stairways - just in need of a thorough vacuum!
Location is spot on - right on Kensington High Street and next door to Nando's where we had a quick bite to eat. Hotel is good value for money overall. less
