I have stayed at this hotel several times over the last 20 year's. Last night will be the last. Nearly everything about the stay was subpar: cost, customer service, room/building, spa, towels, sheets, breakfast, checkout.
First paid for pool view and requested (a month ago) lower floor as we were hoping to be able to walk off patio to pool. The week before I called to remove 1 night from our 2 night visit. Arrive, and the cost of our 1 Sunday night was prorated to 2/3 the cost of both nights. Now I know Friday and Saturdays are more, but why was Sunday $200 if the total for both Sunday and Monday was only $300? Checked in around 5pm, waited while gentleman ahead of me is given 6 rooms to choose from, majority are down stairs and he wants upstairs. Couple mins later he makes his selection and I'm up. I get assigned an upstairs. I make a second request for a downstairs and am told none are available. Weird as I just heard 4 downstairs offered to man before me. I take room even though it is about $50 more than expected and not as requested. They need a car description, I write it down. Mossing my license plate. She refuses to issue parking pass without it. Its windy and raining at the moment. No offer to have me call it in to her from room. Walk out in rain and crowed parking lot for license plate number( apparently the on site restaurant was having a banquet which left no parking spots up front). Receptionist mentioned quick email checkout for tomorrow and I plan on that. Lug our bags upstairs(hotel does not have elevators), hallway stinks, like 50 year old dirty old smokers house stink. Open room, smell not as bad but still lingering. Call immediately to see if there are other options....told only 1 other room in same building (by same women who just offered previous gentlemen several rooms). Hang up, whatever, its only 1 night right? Room is clean and orderly, just smells. Go to pool, it's February so it's chilly out, spa is luke warm. Dissapointing. Pool towels are glorified cheap hand towels. Decide to go back to room. Water pressure in shower sucks(pretty typical in California hotels) along with the temperature control in room and we were cold from spa and our walk back to upstairs room. Turn on TV. Channels are going in and out of reception. Turn it off. Get under covers to sleep. Sheets are old, thin and pilling, mattress lumpy. Gross. Wake up in the morning and go to breakfast. Its 9am, breakfast ends at 9:30. EVERYTHING is cold, eggs, sausage, French toast. Toaster broken and they ran out of flavored creamer. Go back to room. Its 1055 check out is 11. Grab paper that mentioned quick email checkout. No directions. Check email. Nothing. Go to website and open reservation, no check out options. Call front desk, they immediately put me on hold. I assume they are busy. Wait on hold a few minutes then hang up. It was going to be faster to just check out the old fashion way. Walk into office a minute later, expecting a crowd. Three women are working, only one is actually helping someone. I am the only other person in the office. She asks how my stay was. My face, I'm sure says awful. She says "good?". I say not really. She asks if I am leaving it on the original card and that was that. Took my receipt and left....and will not return. There are much better hotels, and staff in the area. less
