This used to be a great hotel. Sadly, I can now rate it no better than average. We got one of the hot tub suites over New Year's at what I thought was a great price ($135 a night). But the hotel is still undergoing renovations, months after other reviewers had complained of the mess. And the outdoor hot tub is STILL not working, weeks after other reviewers complained about it. (You know what? When my plumbing at home fails, I call a plumber and he comes THAT DAY and it's FIXED. PERIOD. What the heck is taking so long with this hotel?) Yes, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Yes, the pool area was OK. Yes, the room was cleaned adequately. We had no problem with food shortages at breakfast that other reviewers have complained about -- although the hot food holding temperature I thought was dangerously low -- we actually found the warming tray set to the absolute minimum setting -- so we turned it up ourselves! But between the ongoing mess and the long-term outage of the coolest thing about this hotel, an outdoor hot tub, I can rate it no better than average for the money. (Also, don't be deceived by the name. This hotel is in a very scenic part of Michigan, but it's nowhere near the top of "Scenic Hill." The front of the hotel views a highway with a woods and other buildings across the road. The rear of the hotel has a pleasant enough view, a northern Michigan meadow and hillside. But no spectacular views are to be had from any of the rooms.) less
