My husband, his brother and I were bike touring and we stayed at this Best Western in San Marcos, TX for the night of 3/17/2018. Few days later we received an extra $50.00 charge from Best Western aside from the normal/expected room rate.
We called Best Western in regard to this extra charge and we were told initially that the towels were missing and that's why we were getting charged.
We stated that we did not take any towels from Best Western. Then the hotel changed their statement and told us that we dirtied the towels from cleaning the bikes. This is an absolute insult to us. We would never use a clean white towel to do anything with the bikes. We asked the hotel to provide evidence to us and the manager of the hotel, Mike Patel, was rude to us on the phone and yelled "Do you want to see pictures ? I'll show you the pictures !".
This conversation happened on 3/20/2018 and until this day I'm still calling Best Western almost everyday to beg them to send evidence pictures to us.
The response from the hotel goes from "the manager is off today", "the housekeeper who took the picture is off today ", "the housekeeper happened to be sick today", "the manager just left 30 minutes ago, call back tomorrow", and to the latest one was "no body is here today, call back tomorrow".
This is beyond frustrating. Having a big branded hotel mistakenly charing us extra fee without further providing explanation and evidence feels like they are trying to rip us off. Finally the corporate emailed us a picture sent by Mike Patel to Best Western Cooperate. They made it clear that they cannot do anything about the situation and never gave us a response back.
This picture showed a bunch of dirty towels on a floor that is absolutely not in a hotel room. And they blamed this to us because we had bicycles and perhaps made us an easier target. Everyone who bikes or has done any form of bike cleaning/maintenance can tell that this picture is a total lie. Word of advise: take pictures of everything when you stay in this hotel because this is how they rip you off !
Other than the manager Mike Patel, everyone else at this hotel was nice. less
