I have family in the Ephrata area, so when visiting for more than a day, I stay at the Best Western Rama Inn. More often than not, my visits coincide with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. As there are limited options for lodging in Ephrata specifically, it makes for an easy choice. But also I have generally had good experience with Best Western properties, so that is also a factor.
The overall property always seems to be kept in good shape and generally well-maintained. The guest room - both on my Thanksgiving visit and on previous stays - are spacious, well-appointed, and very clean. On this most recent stay, I did note the room I was in on the second floor (it is a two-story building) had some newer furnishings and fixtures, which was nice to see. All fixtures, lighting, and other items were in good working order. The rooms feature a larger college-boy style refrigerator, and a small coffeemaker. The bathroom is a bit small, but manageable in comparison to some other properties I have stayed at recently. Also, the bed is a bit too firm for my liking, but I still usually sleep well when I stay here.
Wi-fi connectivity is easy, and operates at a good speed. TV selection in the rooms are very good. There is an indoor pool on-site, which I have not used but looks to be in good condition. The hotel offers breakfasts in the mornings, which are decent.
The property stays pretty quiet overall, both in terms of guest noise and exterior noise. That is of particular note because the property sits within a few hundred yards of a railroad mainline, so there is frequent train traffic at all hours. However, the hotel does not sit especially close to any road crossings (where whistles would blow), and no whistles blow in the overnight hours, so if you hear anything, it's a low rumble that is not bothersome or loud in the least.
Room rates are fair. At parts of the year, they may seem high given the brand and location. However, I think the rates are fair given they have sort of a "captive market" - the nearest comparably decent lodging would be in Moses Lake or beyond - and they have maintained the property well.
My only real criticism of the property is that the customer service tends to be somewhat erratic. In my experience in staying at this property - which was the same on my recent Thanksgiving stay - is that the front desk staff in the evenings are a little less than engaging or outwardly courteous, while the staff working in the morning are very courteous and friendly. Housekeeping staff are always friendly and kind when you encounter them.
Overall, the Rama Inn is a very good choice for lodging if staying in or around the Ephrata area. I have always been pleased with my stays there, and look forward to staying there when I visit family in the weeks and months to come. less
