Stayed for two nights with our granddaughter who enjoyed being near the beach. We walked there and back each morning and evening to enjoy the beach when the sun wasn't so hot. Hot day times are when we go to museums or shopping or take naps. We don't like to get sun burned and don't enjoy the hot humidity that soaks your clothes in the middle of the day.
It's not that far to the wonderful Corpus Christi Museum of History and Science near the big bridge. And there's also the Lady Lexington Aircraft carrier, but that hot steel deck is really hot during the day.
The staff at the hotel did a great job at the front desk, cleaning the room, and at breakfast. There were two women at breakfast each morning that kept the room well-stocked with food and supplies. The scrambled eggs were fresh, well-prepared, and there were other options with potatoes, sausages, and fresh fruit.
They have two waffle machines with the batter to make your own waffles and they were excellent. They have fresh strawberry sauce to put on your waffles, along with maple syrup, and a can of good whipped cream. Or they have chocolate chips if you want those on your waffles.
There is actually some shade on the pool part of the afternoon so that helped keep from getting sunburned.
Just a note that there is construction going on up front. I was concerned when I saw that, but although our room was on the first floor near the front, they only work on the job during the day and we never heard any noise from the construction, so I don't think that's a problem. It appears they are trying to add more rooms as this appears to be a very popular place to stay.
The rates were higher than we usually pay for a Best Western or Holiday Inn Express, but this hotel had cheaper rates than the Holiday Inn Express (which is only one block closer to the beach). And saving money makes me wake up feeling smarter in the morning!
There's nothing fancy about this place, but the higher than usual costs are due to the fact that it is not far from the beach and it is on an Island. So rates are going to be higher. You can stay cheaper farther away, but you'll either need a dune buggy or you'll need to get a beach permit to park on the beach. But if you park your own car on the beach, remember that you are running the risk of getting salt water and salt air inside the metal parts of your car and that is guaranteed to cause rust. One of the rules of used car buying is to never buy a used car that comes from the coast. Don't ruin your car with salt water. less
