Due to hurricane damage this hotel is under construction. I thought that when they rented me a room it would be one that was completely repaired. However, the first floor room that I was sent to had no baseboards, was not completely painted and had three large holes in the bathroom wall. The manager did offer to give me my money back or move me to the second floor. It was after dark and not a good time for two women to be looking around for another hotel. I didn't trust that the second floor room would be any better that the first floor room. If you want a nice room for a special vacation, I would recommend looking elsewhere. less

Our Best Western fared well from the 130+ MPH winds of Hurricane Harvey on August 25th, but took 6 inches of water from the storm surge in our downstairs rooms and lobby. It has been a very busy and productive two and a half months for our community. Our amazing staff has kept the hotel going, prepared the facilities for our regular guests, and volunteered within the community to clean schools and churches, all while dealing with their own damaged homes and challenges.
Seven days after the storm, AEP restored electricity to the hotel and moved their contractors into our 22 undamaged upstairs rooms while they worked on the rest of the island. Since then, we have hosted Spectrum, Centurylink, and other contractors, as well as locals who are trying to get back into their homes.
Before the storm, we had contractors on site finishing up our 10 new King Studio Kitchen Suites, so they stayed on and began cleaning up downed trees and washed up debris even before we had power. We have made tremendous progress, and on November 1st, we began renting our restored downstairs rooms.
While we have already started renting the downstairs rooms, we are still working to complete baseboards and touch-ups after stripping the rooms to the studs and rebuilding, and we are waiting for replacement dressers. We are working out of a small office in front of the hotel, and 49 guest rooms and our breakfast room are now open. The pool is being re-plastered, and our 90-degree heated pool will be open by Thanksgiving. By the end of the year, we expect to have all 59 rooms and our lobby back, and by Spring, I expect all construction activity at the hotel to be complete.
I encourage anyone planning to visit to give us a call at 361-749-3010 to get an up-to-date status and to visit the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce website to see which businesses have re-opened. While construction is going on in nearly every building and home on the island, there are already nearly a dozen restaurants open, fishing charters are going out, and the beach is always beautiful in the fall and winter.
I apologize to anyone who has booked without receiving clear expectations of conditions before arriving.
Sincerely, Vince Vanorman, Owner
