I don't understand how this is a four star hotel and the pictures on the website do not match our experience. We were visiting for a Christmas do, and as it looked like a very nice hotel, we thought we'd treat ourselves to an extra night to enjoy the countryside and the spa and a relax.
We were put in a room far away from the main building - which meant we had to get fully dressed in coats and everything to get to the spa, the bar or breakfast. The room itself was shabby and dated, and very very disappointing - a travelodge room is more stylish and well presented. In addition, the ceilings were paper-thin and we could hear the conversations of the people upstairs.
The bar area was not a relaxing place - I couldn't find the arm chairs and fireplaces advertised on the website. It was not somewhere to sit and read a book.
The restaurant was being used for Christmas dos, which we were not warned about on booking, so to get a proper evening meal on the Friday we had to get a taxi (£12 in an uber into Coventry).
They do not seem to use the main grand looking house for anything, everything is in modern extensions.
The spa area was fine (nice big pool) though the steam room was out of order for our entire visit and the 'whirlpool' was freezing.
Breakfast was also very disappointing for a four star hotel. The tea I had on the first morning was disgusting and tasted like it had been mixed in with coffee. After trying to get anyone's attention and being ignored I gave up trying to get a fresh one and just asked for hot water the next morning and used my own tea bag. I would not expect a four star hotel to have an entirely buffet breakfast.
When a few of us returned to our rooms on our last morning after breakfast we found our key cards had been cancelled. Reception quickly sorted this out but there was no apology or explanation.
The Christmas do itself was kind of fine - food was fine, though the veggie and fish mains came without any sides, and were therefore very small. And the rest of the table had long finished our mains before the fish mains was served. The music was very loud during the meal meaning we could barely have a conversation. The DJ was poor - he seemed obsessed with his own favourite songs and it was only when he started playing requests in the last half an hour that the dance floor filled up.
P.s I wouldn't usually mention location, but it is not the 'country hotel' advertised, being on the side of the A45 (a busy dual carriageway). Plus, I notice other reviews state it is convenient for getting in and out of Coventry - given the dual carriageway it IS convenient when coming from Coventry but if you want to go into the city you have to drive 5 minutes in the wrong direction, to drive 5 minutes back before you can get on your way! less
