Recently I had the opportunity to spend the evening at the BWP Walkerton with my 2 granddaughters - ages 3 & 6.
All of the employees whom I encountered were very lovely - friendly, helpful and kind. The issue developed in the swimming pool.
I booked the room with the intent of spending a lovely night with my granddaughters in the pool. I've done this many times in the past in several destinations, however, with the COVID-19 health issue, this time we stayed close to our home in Hanover. There is no where on the Best Western Plus Walkerton site that provides the information that the pool is open to walk-ins from the community.
Our first several minutes in the pool were delightful, until a 'family' of 5 adults and 9 or 10 children (from infant to 12ish) arrived from the community. Within minutes they had completely taken over the pool so we were confined to a small corner of the pool in the shallow end.
The newcomers were doing backward flips into the pool, yelling and screaming, throwing balls with great force around the pool and generally created a very unpleasant - and possibly dangerous - environment. I did ask one of the adults to have their children refrain from the ear-piercing screams, which they did momentarily. The adults were as noisy and unruly as the children, encouraging (and videoing) the back-flips off the edge. This behaviour was not only unacceptable and dangerous, but provided a poor example for my young ones.
Within several minutes it became abundantly clear that they had set the tone for the swim experience and I gathered up my granddaughters and went back to the room.
I am not only disappointed that my granddaughters were unable to enjoy their time in the pool, but really annoyed that I had paid $150 to provide them with a wonderful evening with Grammie, only to have the experience severely compromised by a group of locales who paid $6 pp to take over the pool.
I learned of the cost when I inquired at the front desk. The lady on duty was very apologetic for the situation, which was totally out of her control.
Of course, any time spent with my sweet little girls is truly rewarding and we did have a lovely swim this morning before checking out. I am just disappointed in missing the opportunity to enjoy the pool yesterday because of the inconsiderate behaviour of 'visitors' knowing that I had paid a considerable amount in anticipation of a great time.
