The check-in process was a breeze. Although it was very clearly stated on their website, we were also informed about the daily parking fee of $17 before signing and given a parking pass to display on our dashboard. The underground parking garage is nice and parking was easy. We never had a problem finding a space. The elevators were quick and convenient to access our room, lobby, and parking garage.
We stayed in a "Premier Accommodations" room (according to the Inns of Monterey website), a top floor room with vaulted ceilings, king bed, fireplace, and balcony with a courtyard view. The room was lovely. The furniture was beautiful and we loved having the large desk/dresser/cabinet area as it offered a lot of counter space. The large armchairs facing the fireplace and television as well as the bed were very comfortable. The bathroom is spacious with two sinks and the decently-sized shower has fantastic water pressure and convenient features like shelves and a grab bar. The mini fridge, two luggage racks, ample hangers, and toiletries were also appreciated. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony, taking in the small view of the ocean, the sounds, and the wonderful weather. The room can become a tiny bit warm during the day, but once you open the sliding door, the temperature is perfect at approximately 65-67F! Plus, if you need a little more air, you can find an oscillating fan in the closet as there is no A/C. Nights were cold, so we made sure to close the sliding door before heading to bed.
I read they had transitioned to pre-packed "Grab-N-Go" meals during the pandemic, but we arrived just a few days after they switched back to their complimentary continental breakfast served in the lobby's dining room. This included a buffet of hot items like sausage links, pre-made omelets, and a waffle station with all the fixings (salted butter, ground cinnamon, whipped cream, sprinkles, chopped nuts, boysenberry syrup, etc), plus, yogurts, pastries (muffins, pound cake, and English muffins), and single-serve cereals. Beverage options included water bottles, apple and orange juices, milk, hot tea, and coffee. The food was decent and very much appreciated to fuel our days packed with adventure!
The location of this inn is incredibly convenient. We loved being able to walk to Cannery Row and Monterey Aquarium, plus the added bonus of being able to come back to our room for breaks throughout the day. And driving to our other destinations in the Monterey Bay Area was also easy.
Check out was equally simple - we just picked up the phone, dialed 0, gave them our room number, and said we were ready to check out. That was it! I received my receipt via e-mail, we left the room keys on the desk, and went on our way.
The only complaint we have on an otherwise great stay is that the room's insulation is truly awful. Prior to our visit, I read reviews about thin walls and noise from neighboring rooms, but the first night was really quiet and very relaxing. It wasn't until the next day that we experienced what many others have noted. First, we had a room that was not connected to another room on the left, so that obviously helped, but we heard very disrupting noise from the room to the right. We could hear our next door neighbor clearing their throat or every time (and I mean, EVERY TIME) they coughed. Also, we don't know what was going on, but there were a couple times we were a bit startled by very loud banging noises as if someone threw something forcefully or dropped something heavy on the ground. It was astonishing as to how clearly we could hear them.
Staff was great and everyone was friendly. Although, on our last day there, housekeeping knocked on our door a little after 11:30AM and asked if we had a late check-out (I assume since we were still in our room), so I was a little confused and responded, "No... we're leaving at noon." (since that is the official check-out time) and she left, but we were a little taken aback. There should be better communication between the front desk and housekeeping if there are any late check-outs and it is definitely not necessary to disrupt and question guests on the matter, especially before 12PM. less
