I’ve been reading some of the previous reviews, and look... let’s get one thing out of the way: if you’re looking for a sterilized Hyatt or Westin, try Vegas. You just aren’t going to find that anywhere in Alaska. Well, maybe in Anchorage. But you know what the Sourdoughs say about Anchorage? You can kind of see Alaska from there. 😁
Anywhere outside of Anchorage is still is the last frontier, the Wild, Wild West. Isn’t that what you wanted? It’s Alaska! The hotel is quaint, charming, and looks straight out of a gold rush town. There were lots of special touches like Alaska-grown coffee in the rooms.
The restaurant was great thanks to chef Lisa. I only had a burger, which was reasonably priced and delicious. (Get the hand-pressed burger - totally worth it!) But they have a full menu of all the things you have to try while you’re here: Local seafood! They have grilled Salmon, Seward-caught halibut & chips, Alaskan clams, crab, and a variety of classic American dishes. All of the front staff was attentive and super friendly. After the first day I felt like I was just hanging out at my family’s house. They were that easygoing and fun.
The hotel is within walking distance of the docks, the Marine Life Center, and pretty much everything else touristy in Seward.
I got an amazing deal in the off season, but I would definitely stay here again, even at summer rates!
As for the taxidermy that others have mentioned... Welcome! This is Alaska. Just enjoy the experience. less
