The first impression upon arrival is not good because the asphalt parking lot is in poor shape with the painted parking stripes barely visible. Things improve when Automatic Doors open into a large two-story lobby that is very well decorated. The staff are terrific. Guests receive a warm welcome and make guests feel like their business is appreciated.
This property has been ungraded, renovated, and maintained very well. The large grand lobby is a problem in the morning because there is not enough space and tables for guests to enjoy the free breakfast. There is a very large circle table with three jars of grass and plants that takes up a large volume of space in the center of the lobby but is nothing more functional than a decoration. There are 6 chairs/sofa in front of the fireplace, and some folks are required to sit there and balance their paper plate on their knees for breakfast. Management really should get rid of the large circle table and add more small tables for breakfast guests. There is one very long farmhouse-style table that could be used by large breakfast groups, but otherwise is covered in decorations.
We were assigned a second floor room about halfway down the hall. It was a very quiet location and very comfortable. The room design had the bathroom in the middle, effectively dividing the space into a living room and bedroom, but without a bedroom door. Frig and micro were inside furniture with TV mounted above on the wall. Sofa and chair in the room so you could relax with TV, Everything was clean, and modern.
I had a $20 Best Western gift certificate that I gave them when I checked in. The night staff had not been trained how to handle that and were confused about what to do since they were used to people paying in the morning at checkout. We stayed three nights and they charged a different amount each night. Upon check out, there was a $3 error on the room bill, and it took 15 minutes for the front desk to correct the error and reissue a statement. He apologised for taking so long and gave me $10 off the bill instead of the $3 room adjustment, but it still took too long to correct the error when I just wanted to get on the road before rainstorms hit. less
