Reported thefts from our room and received a pillowcase full of human excrement in front of door!

Since I was lecturing at a Cambridge over the weekend, I was offered a room there, but after previous experiences with nasty rooms at UCLA, I decided to rely on a brand I knew, Best Western, especially since this was rated as a "Plus" experience--but super expensive, AND not really well located. The breakfast was really a let down since it appeared that they were incapable of making a soft boiled egg for the "Eggs and soldiers" on the breakfast menu. Coffee was cold, service was substandard. It appeared that most of the staff, except for about three of the students had almost zero command of English. For a premium price of well over 200 English pounds per night, this was outrageous indeed.
I traveled with my sister who is recovering from ankle surgery and required ice after a day of traveling on a scooter/or wheelchair. She also has some issues which require her to eat frequent small meals, and we prepared for that.
We bought apples for her at a local market and they were clean and placed in a bag. She noticed that a couple of the apples, which remained in the room, were stolen from the room. Then, we noticed other personal property missing. We complained to the management (eldest child left in charge) and we requested a change in housekeeper, since I was obligated to stay there one ore might and it is quite difficult to work, find another hotel and coordinate moving a handicapped person with luggage to another hotel. Should have done it! Next morning while we were at what passed as "breakfast" someone actually planted a pillowcase with human excrement in it to block passage into the room. Small wonder that they hadn't decided to set it on fire as well. I immediately called for the hotel manager but a snippy east european who stated she was the "deputy housekeeper manager" arrived just as I was asking the maid I noticed across the hall what was going on. Instead of saying she didn't know what I was talking about, she said, "I didn't do it!" Yes, but obviously she knows who did and why. The deputy whatever saw that I was about to photograph the poo laden pillowcase with my camera phone, yelling that I was wrong and these were clean sheets. Excuse me, who leaves clean sheets in a pillowcase in front of a guests door? I tried to speak to a manager before checking our but I hadn't seen one in three days I was there. At over 250 pounds a day...I splurged because my sister needed a restful hotel not the vote offered by the university, I expected this hotel to be warranted as is stated a plus hotel by best western. It simply wasn't. I reported the theft of my Kindle and chanel sunglasses and the fact that someone had apparently been nearly caught taking apart my computer for removal. ZEST Western unlike Hilton, does not guarantee ANYTHING. I was actually chastised for not placing my valuables in a safe. My laptop and Kindle and my clothes? Where does one stop. This hotel has even refused to respond to my complaint to bestwestern. Why should they? They don't have to make it right like Hilton promises. I made my full fare Reservation on bestwestern 's website. I PAID Bestwestern. Now they say that they cannot do anything to help with my complaint? This just reminded me to advise AAA as well. For the price of the place, it simply wasn't worth whatever bandaid they did in recent renovation. It is definitely in a very inconvenient location. Not a coffee shop or whatever around. I saw so many hotels right on the main street of the university, I could just kick myself for wanting what I thought was a quality US branded hotel. It's not. And they are simply nasty pigs. less
