We booked The Gonville as we were in town for a concert at The Corn Exchange, which is about a 10 minute walk away. The fact it had a good sized car park was also a major factor. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. Reception staff were very professional, friendly and efficient.
Our room was quite adequately furnished and attractively decorated, we could not fault it size wise, the bed was very comfortable, and plenty big enough. We had large French windows opening onto a small Juliet balcony, overlooking Parker's Piece. The hospitality tray contained a good selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate, and still and sparkling water was provided in the room. The free wifi and use of complimentary tablet was a welcome touch.
The noise of the airconditioning unit was a little intrusive, so we asked at reception for this to be remedied, which it was. The member of staff who came to solve our problem was a young Swedish gentleman who was absolutely charming, and so helpful and polite.
We were a little taken aback by the obscure glass door to the lavatory/wet room, which we thought offered very little privacy, but this was a minor grumble and didn't cause us too much inconvenience.
The choice at breakfast was superb - everything you would expect and more, with unlimited juice, tea and coffee, The breakfast room itself was a particularly pleasant area, modern, light and airy. Service was swift, polite and efficient, provided by obviously very well trained staff.
I would not hesitate to recommend The Gonville to anyone visiting Cambridge who requires a city centre based hotel with car parking. less
