I have stayed at a lot of hotels & tried out their spa facilities, this is probably the worse one I have ever been to. 1 good thing I can say about this hotel is that the staff are very nice & will go out of there way to help you when needed, which is great. So I’ll start with the spa, it doesn’t have many facilities to use but what is does have is a gym, an absolutely tiny pool which you feel uncomfortable & awkward when other people are in it as your extremely close to each other, a sauna & steam room. That’s basically it! (it’s basically what you find in your local swimming baths, not what you expect at a spa retreat). The spa staff were amazing at what they do, they were very polite & helpful and our group thoroughly enjoyed our treatments. What to expect before you go: your not allowed your own drinks/food, the complimentary robes and slippers you are given have to be returned before leaving the spa. I will move onto the rooms, first impressions were good, rooms looked generally clean & I thought I was overall happy with everything UNTIL I lifted the duvet to get into bed that night and found a huge stain on the mattress cover, because of this I checked the other beds bedding and found mould on the sides of the duvet which was completely off putting straight away. Apart from this I didn’t notice anything else wrong with the rooms. The evening meal: I couldn’t fault either the staff or the food, everything was very nice & we was happy when we left. To conclude, I wouldn’t stay here again. Definitely not a spa retreat I would like to experience again, not much to do, quite boring & overall a crap experience. less

Myself and two friends visited on 6th August for our annual girlie spa trip. This was our first visit to this hotel. The spa was amazing and offered great treatments that we all were really happy with. We had booked for a light lunch as part of our package at 1pm. There were very few staff around to advise where to go, just 1 person in the bar so we waited a while to be advised it was in the restaurant. There was no one there to seat us so we sat down ourselves and we waited. Someone eventually came and gave us a menu and we selected what we wanted. We then waited for an hour with no food, we had to buy crisps at the bar to keep us going. We kept asking to be advised it would be 5 mins. After an hour we were advised that the chef had discovered there were no fish cakes left, had they not known this before an hour had gone by? I reordered, we then waited another 40 minutes for 3 basic salads to appear. Chicken and lettuce basically for the ceasar salad and just some salad leaves and a few chickpeas for the superfood salad. We were offered complimentary drinks while we waited. Staff lacked customer service skills. No one asked what had been ordered and just placed in front of the nearest person. They actually started clearing the table and reached directly in front of me whilst I was putting food into my mouth without an excuse me or anything. We asked for desserts to be brought out as we didn't want another wait. Desserts were good even though one wasn't what was chosen from the menu but we decided to just to eat it as it seemed the easier option. Charging at the bar also seemed an issue another customer was charged £100 for two drinks and we had to query our bill as we were charged wrongly. They really need to address the staffing situation and provide some training to them and also be honest with guests instead of just advising it will be another 5 minutes. Very disappointing less

We were a little apprehensive after Reading some of the reviews, but we had a lovely break which we booked through a Buy a Gift voucher. 2 night stay with breakfast and Evening meal. The food was lovely and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was a little dated but it is an old hotel, was clean and tidy though and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed it so much that we booked an extra night. Would not hesitate to recommend. less

We paid £300 for a 2 night stay on the Great Little Break offer. This offer gave us Cream tea on arrival, two evening meals, two breakfasts, two packed lunches and included all drinks between 6pm and 10pm. The young staff were helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was very good, with the evening meals exceptionally good. The hotel is situated high above the town of Ilkley, with some amazing views. The hotel is a beautful old building, with plenty of character and some Victorian plumbing to match. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would'nt hesitate to return. less
