Stayed at the Best Western Sundial during the first week of February. Unbeknownst to us it was one of the busiest weekends of the year in Phoenix with the Phoenix Open PGA Tour in town as well as Super Bowl weekend. We found the hotel to be well managed and maintained and in a very good, convenient location. There are many restaurants and entertainment venues nearby that you can walk to as well as old town Scottsdale. The hotel staff is very professional, courteous and friendly but unobtrusive. Our room was above average in size with adequate closet and drawer space. The bed was very comfortable and there is a mini refrigerator in the room to store your drinks or cold snacks. Wi-Fi connection was very good and fast. The hotel has a nice pool area with a hot tub. When we used the pool facilities it was never crowded with plenty of space to relax. Rather than the usual minimal continental breakfasts included with most hotels, the Sundial's breakfast - which is included in the daily rate - was well above average. They offered a good selection of juices, scrambled eggs, bacon, hard boiled eggs, a variety of pastries, fruit, cereals, yogurts, pancakes, breakfast burritos, potatoes, as well as Starbucks coffee. It got your day off to a very good start. Unfortunately, despite all of the above positives, I did not give the Sundial a five star rating for several reasons. First of all, we requested a quiet room. However, due to the busy weekend - the hotel was sold out - we ended up on the ground floor facing the street. As many reviewers previously posted, there is a small entertainment district directly across the street from the hotel. Given this location you can hear the loud thumping of music until at least 2-3 in the morning. Also, traffic noise is an issue. I believe the rooms facing Camelback Road should have been better insulated for sound. Also, the Sundial is a rare hotel/resort that does not provide an in-room safe. Having a safe in the room makes it more convenient to store your valuables as well as your laptops/tablets. Although the front desk is very accommodating to store your valuables in the managers safe, it is very inconvenient to say the least.
I recommend the Sundial for anyone visiting the Phoenix area. However, if you are concerned about noise during the late night and early morning hours, request a room at the rear of the hotel facing the parking lot and pool area. Also, if you need to secure your valuables or laptop you may be inconvenienced. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would visit again albeit in a quieter section. less
