My husband and I recently visited for a 2-night stay in downtown Kansas City. I read many reviews about the hotel and was very open-minded when we checked in and went to our room. The staff was very friendly at check-in and continued to be engaging and friendly each time we passed through the lobby. Whether it was the desk clerk, breakfast attendant or the shuttle driver, everyone went out of their way to say hello and be engaging. I have zero complaints about the staff!
The rooms were good for this type of hotel. The hotel is a bit older, but the rooms have been updated (at least our king with jacuzzi room was) and there are modern furnishings, fresh paint, updated plumbing fixtures, mini-refrigerator, television, etc. The carpet could use some updating, but I generally appreciated the rest of the hotel’s modernization. The king-sized bed was so squishy and comfortable, as were the pillows, and it spoke to my love for a “marshmallow bedding” feel. The dual-switch bed lamps with reading lights were also an awesome feature that I now need at home.
The price and proximity to the plaza were the main reasons for choosing this hotel and it was about a 10 minute walk to the plaza. There is a lot of foot traffic between the gas station next door and the bus stop across the street, but if you can cross the street and walk about a half block towards the hospital, there is a beautiful park with walking track that will lead you all the way to the plaza. This is a much preferred walking route as we were rarely bothered by other people in the park (unlike on the sidewalks) and the walking path was like a cushy track so it was much easier on the legs.
There was plenty of parking behind the hotel and we did not have trouble finding a spot, even after going out for the evening. The flowers and outside seating were very nice as well as the hotel lobby and breakfast area. Breakfast was a nice bonus with waffles, eggs, sausages and a variety of cold items available. (I discovered that many of the downtown hotels didn’t offer complimentary breakfast, especially the higher-priced hotels, so breakfast was a great feature for this bargain shopper.)
If you’re looking for a getaway to Kansas City and are looking for a reasonable hotel with good proximity to the downtown city life, this was an excellent choice. My husband and I had a pleasant experience overall. less
