Nice rooms, average hotel,awful guests

We have lived close to this hotel for many years, we tried the steak house a few years ago but left because of poor service. We decided to try the hotel for our anniversary. We upgraded to a suite and the room was amazing and very good value. There are some pictures attached of the room which I can’t fault - spacious, comfortable bed, huge open plan bathroom upstairs in what I assume is an old barn conversion complete with open wooden beams. As rooms go fit for a wedding anniversary this was pretty impressive. The hotel is pretty in a semi- rural location. It has been here for years (since 1610) so it is obviously doing something right but I found the Jacobean pub poor with small selection of overpriced drinks, slow service and no atmosphere. (There is a nice proper pub The Rustic Arms a few miles away). All of the seats are uncomfortable dining seats, the pub not having any area aside just for a relaxing drink. Breakfast was also served here and was a really nice help- yourself buffet although the staff were more concerned with tidying up as it was getting close to end of service. The bit for me however that really let me down was the fellow guests in suite 19 next door. It sounded like there were 500 kids in the adjacent suite just running around and screaming and banging until gone midnight then again from 7am. I blame their selfish parents but secondly I feel hotels have a duty of care to other guests to make efforts to police guests. I feel the hotel will make money from weddings and christenings then turn a blind eye to their behaviour. less

I would firstly like to thank you for your review regarding your recent Wedding Anniversary stay and I appreciate the time you took to write this.
I would firstly like to thank you for your kind comments regarding the overall appearance of our hotel and I am delighted that you found your suite to be everything you were looking for and more to celebrate your special occasion.
I am however very disappointed to hear about your points raised regarding noise and the food. We do endeavor to ensure that all our guests are completely satisfied with their experiences and eliminate any concerns regarding the service we provide. Should we be informed of anything such like on the day the hotel will certainly look into the matter in question immediately. We do have a Night Manager on duty all through evening until the morning should anything of such like happen who can assist with any concerns regarding fellow guests.I will of course pass this onto the management who can address the dining experience with the Chef and the team.
