Had a great stay in 2018 and wrote a good review. Hence we were back in the district so headed straight for it again. Sorry but this hotel has "gone to the dogs" to coin a phrase. It was over run with dogs everywhere and including peeing up the furniture in the lobby. We were given a room on the ground floor. Then we had a break and coffee in the lounge and whilst doing so watched two people come in with two dogs and large dog baskets and enter the room next to ours. Then the owners went out to their vehicle and the dogs started barking and scratching the door. I complained and the owners came back in. Then we watched the owners go out in their car after asking for directions of places to eat. The dogs instantly started barking again without let up. I complained bitterly to the front desk. The room was quite near the front desk and they admitted it was loud and they could hear it quite plainly. They offered to move me. Not happy as it was not me that was causing the problem. They said the no dog rooms were all gone but I could go on the second floor. We had no choice as we were with other guests staying there and we had the vehicle so could not move out. Our room was quite clearly a dog room as it had that dog smell. Very unpleasant and was a good job we were not allergic to dogs. I have no idea what the policy is with letting out rooms to non dog owners or the policy to inform them that they are being put in dog friendly rooms but it is not acceptable to what we endured on this current stay. Location is good and breakfast is good but I am afraid my estimation of Best Westerns has just been lowered. We were so looking forward to staying at this hotel again. Rules need to checked and staff given instruction when unruly dogs are left unattended in rooms. keith C less
