I stayed at the BW Peninsular on the front and back end of a trip to Dar. My email interactions with Natalie were really helpful prior to the trip and she arranged a driver to pick me up after my late flight.
The transfer cost $40 US when arranged by the hotel which I knew was high but valued the service as it was my first trip to Dar. Later I realized that Uber works in Dar and the trip costs $11-$18 US depending upon the time of day and traffic etc.
The room I had on the second floor, I think 202 was as the picture but dark and needing white paint. The bathroom had a light over the sink that couldn’t be turned off by pulling the string as it was designed to do. I just kept the door shut for two days. The air worked great but this was not my experience on 308 on my second stay.
Room 308 looked just like the pictures and was just as advertised. The problem was the A/C didn’t work well even after maintenance came and spent thirty minutes recharging the Freon or whatever it was. But it did make it bearable (I’m frequently hotter than many) and I slept well.
The breakfast had a lot of effort put into it and the staff were excellent but somehow it seemed to underwhelm which is surprising because the people working were so good.
I need to mention that Elisabeth at the checkout was really exceptional in that she was efficient and a very warm person who made me feel like family. In fact, everyone at the hotel from restaurant manager to the men taking care of luggage to the maids seemed well trained and genuinely helpful to do anything asked. They even tried to find me a room while waiting for my flight and provided a late checkout which was above and beyond reasonable and kind.
I plan to stay here again when I return later in 2019, because a good hotel with great people is worth coming back to.
I am honestly grateful for the kindness of the staff beyond the expectation of good service. less
