A lovely place, let down in a few areas

Our room was comfortable and spacious but the door to the Bathroom was VERY squeaky (akin to a Hammer Horror film-type squeak!), which rudely wakes your partner if you have to get up in the night! We mentioned it the next morning and the problem was fixed the same day which is good, but, the cleaning staff must surely have noticed the squeaking so it is disappointing that the issue had not been resolved before we arrived.
The bar area is not manned in the evening, you have to 'ring for service' and there is nowhere to sit in the actual bar itself, which is a bit strange. There was an aura of amateurish-ness about the bar itself and the service; they even seemed to have trouble locating the correct glasses for a glass of wine.
The food in the restaurant was generally good, very tasty in fact, but the restaurant was old-fashioned and little-used (we were the only people in there at one point) and they seem to feel the need to play 'musak' on a loop, and too loudly. We had to ask them to turn it down. In addition, the second night we were there the 'musak' recording was very badly distorted (like an old cassette tape that had stretched and scratched!) but the waiter (there was only one!) seemed not to have noticed! We mentioned this as well to reception later. It seems most people eat at the Ramblewood Inn 'pub' adjoining whiich is also owned by the hotel. We tried this one night and it was fine, but nothing special.
