At least since 2011 this has been our go-to hotel for staying over the night before early-morning flights and leaving our car. This January our experience was less satisfactory than before; the room had a musty smell, and noise from the hall and surrounding rooms -- including someone's long and loud telephone conversation(s), which in a better-constructed hotel we would not have been able to hear so painfully clearly -- made sleep difficult. Obviously the walls haven't gotten thinner; apparently we simply lucked out before by always having quiet neighbors. But the smell in the room was something new that should be addressed.
A few other comments: food is surprisingly decent at the bar/restaurant. The shuttle from hotel to airport -- which should be reserved the night before -- is very convenient and reliable. Getting from airport back to hotel is more complicated, though this is the case with all hotels in the area & a function of how Newark Airport is set up. Essentially, you'll need to take the airport monorail from your arrival terminal to the P4 stop, where you can use a courtesy phone to call the hotel for pickup.
One word of caution in this regard: The hotel website now says cars are parked at a neighboring lot (Jiffy), not onsite, and that it's Jeffy's shuttle that will pick you up. I asked about that when we checked in and was told that no, our car would stay onsite -- apparently Jiffy is used for overflow, which is not clear on the website -- and so we needed to call the hotel's shuttle. Presumably the hotel proactively clarifies with guests where their cars will be and which shuttle to call, but if they don't, ASK!
Finally, as anyone who's been to Newark Airport or vicinity knows, the highways in the area are insane, with what feels like a gazillion roads merging then splitting off, cloverleafs galore, lanes appearing then disappearing then reappearing, then becoming exit-only, signs sometimes confusing etc. The Best Western Plus is in the heart of this. We take Route 78 E to get there and it's fairly straightforward, but getting to 78 W when we leave is a nail-biter.
For many of the reasons cited above, we'll probably give another hotel a try the next time we travel. I'd rather spend a little bit more for a better night's sleep and, with any luck, a slightly less-stressful drive out of the insanity. less
