We were a party of 6 adults, 2 9-year-olds, and a 16 month old baby. We booked 2 rooms to stay 4-8 hours in during long layovers (there were 2 groups from different states). When we arrived in EWR I used the courtesy phone to call a pickup, and was told the shuttle would be there in 15 minutes. 15 minutes came and went, I called again and was told it would be 15 more minutes. Again, same thing. I called from my cell phone and was told it may be 10-20 minutes. My fiance called after 15 minutes and was told it would be 15 minutes. Finally, after an hour, the shuttle did arrive. The driver was uncommunicative and not very friendly. After we unloaded at the hotel, one of our party said he thought he heard the driver say "goodbye, fools". I didn't make a case out of it since only one of our party heard it, but it wouldn't have surprised me.
The buffet breakfast was disappointing, as there was only sausage and no bacon, but that is a personal preference. However, the folded-over scrambled eggs were still frozen in the middle. The waffle maker was a hit, though, and the coffee was okay. The hallways smelled like stale smoke.
Since we had had a stress departure from BQN at 2am and arrived at EWR at 450am, and I was sick, I did not have the stamina to address the shuttle issue. less
