We stayed at the Maldron during the First Ashes at Cardiff, third and fourth days. We did not realise how close the hotel is to the railway station. Booking in was very quick. As we booked breakfast online at the last minute, reception did not know this, but kept the price to £9.00 instead of £10.00.
Our rooms were on the 11th floor (top floor) with views over the trains coming in and out of Cardiff.
We ate in the restaurant the first night, very good and not too expensive.
The breakfast was very good, choice of full English breakfast, scrambled eggs, hash browns, black pudding, beans, tomatoes, sausages and bacon. You could order a fried egg straight from the kitchen. Toast machine was a bit slow, but was OK. Croissants and pastries were available. There was also fruit. Coffee was available from a machine and also various teas were available.
We went out on the second night.
On the third night we ate at the bar, fish and chips and a shared starter – both very nice.
The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We could not work the safe so one of the staff sorted it out.
Very pleasant stay and would definitely stay here again.
Thank you very much. less
